Movie Night – “The Visitor”

Movie Night: “The Visitor” –
sponsored by Covenantal Relations Committee
Friday, March 6. A potluck at 6 pm and film at 7 pm in the Social Hall/Sanctuary
“The Visitor” offers a unique glimpse into the U.S. immigration detention system and the people it affects. Regardless of your level of expertise – whether you’re a law student, an immigrant rights advocate, or a viewer who simply believes in fair treatment and due process – the stories in this film will prompt you to think more critically about the choices our government makes and how you can act to ensure it lives up to American ideals of fairness and justice. In the movie, an older white college professor returns to his NYC apartment only to find it occupied by an immigrant couple. His humanity allows him to permit the couple to stay and the three gradually become close. The man jumps a subway turnstile, is arrested, and becomes ensnared in the immigrant detention system.
A discussion will follow the film.
