I’ve been asked by lay-leaders to preach on the upcoming vote to replace our 40 (or more) year old “Purposes and Principles” with a newly written overview/guide for UUism of this generation. This is the “Article II” discussion/controversy that will be voted on at the June’s General Assembly. Some people like the new phrasing, some (to put it mildly), don’t. As it happens, I generally like the new version- but I assure you that our USNH delegates will not be voting my desires, but their own considered judgement. One way or the other, I’m not big on preaching denominational disputes or “inside baseball.” But I do want to talk about why we are not a creedal religion… and how to articulate our values to one another and the world!
