We often think of the work of social justice as the actions we take out in the world. But there is also an inner dimension to social justice. This is why the executive director of the Gamaliel Foundation, a congregation-based community organization, once wrote in a memo to his senior staff, “We have erred in the past by concentrating mainly about our power in the public arena. Organizing is more correctly about the power people must possess at the center of their being that enables them to be self-directed people.” Today, we will explore the inner aspect of social justice, as well as how to access the power at the center of our being that fuels our social justice work – now and for the long haul.
