“Shock and Awe”

Political prognosticating from the pulpit is not an attractive thing, this I admit. But sometimes life and impending realities back us into a corner–and then our pulpit becomes the right place to forcefully articulate our free religious values in the face of harsh possibilities. This sermon and next week’s are really two sides to one message–what will be unveiled in the first week of this new administration, and secondly, how can we respond, collectively and in our own hearts? There has been wide-spread coverage of how many of us are responding to this emerging new reality–and simply tuning out, going inward, licking our wounds, while all this is natural and very human, these responses do not fit us or our values, no matter how enticing.

When you are about to get hit with shock and awe, we better re-enforce our liberal spiritual strengths to respond–and to do so with smarts and resilience.
