Memorial Day Weekend and Annual Meeting
Plans are afoot to create a new National Garden of Heroes, a vast space for sculptures of Americana showing courage, vision and bravery. In fact, Washington DC and lots of American cities are already replete with such statues already–and sometimes we moderns roll our eyes and repeat the quote from Emerson: “Every hero becomes a bore at last.” I am not thrilled at the list being rolled out for this national “garden” (though it could be worse), but I want to say that perhaps we should not lose sight of what a revival of heroism might still give us…
