How We Are Governed at USNH
As a Unitarian Universalist congregation, USNH is governed by and for its members, following Unitarian Universalist principles and the democratic process. Together, we seek to live out our shared values of justice, connection, generosity, compassion, and spirituality.
Two governing bodies—the Board of Trustees and the Management Team—share responsibility for the long-range vision and the day-to-day life of our community. In keeping with our Unitarian Universalist commitment to the democratic process, every member of USNH has a voice in congregational life. We invite you to attend a congregational meeting and be part of shaping our shared future.

Congregational Governance
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the “big picture” of USNH. The Board focuses on where we are, where we are going, and how our ministries and resources align with our mission and goals.
USNH operates under Policy Governance, a transparent system that establishes clear lines of authority and accountability while encouraging open communication. This approach entrusts people with the freedom to do their work creatively and effectively, and—by design—empowers all areas of congregational life.
The Board develops policies that broadly guide the work of the Management Team and engages in a collaborative feedback process to ensure that the congregation’s goals are being carried out faithfully and responsibly.

Day-to-Day Operations
Management Team
The Management Team oversees the day-to-day operations of the congregation. This includes everything from fostering a culture of respect and care to maintaining our facilities, managing finances, supporting staff, and ensuring clear communication.
The team is responsible for financial planning and budgeting, infrastructure, operational policies, and the many behind-the-scenes details that help make USNH a welcoming, safe, and vibrant community.
If you are interested in serving on the Management Team in the future, would like to learn more about our work, or have a question we’d love to hear from you.
